India appeals UN to end Ukraine conflict

United Nations: India has again appealed to end violence in Ukraine. Indian ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, while speaking at the Security Council meeting, demanded that Russia and Ukraine should hold talks to stop this conflict. Not only the European countries but the whole world is forced to bear the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine. India’s Kamboj pointed out that this has posed huge economic problems, especially in front of developing countries. Meanwhile, it has been recorded that India voted against Russia in a resolution for the first time in the UN Security Council meeting. India registered its vote in favour of the resolution and against Russia regarding the President of Ukraine addressing the Security Council meeting through video teleconference.

India appeals to UN for an immediate end to Ukraine conflictSix months have passed since the conflict in Ukraine. Children, women and the elderly are being scorched by this conflict, and many have been displaced because of the conflict. Not only European countries but the whole world is feeling the heat of this, and developing countries are faced with a shortage of food grains and fertilizers. Ruchira Kamboj said that taking all this into account, there is a need to stop the conflict in Ukraine immediately. Efforts must be made for this in the United Nations and outside the United Nations, and India will fully support such efforts.

Kamboj also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had suggested that Russia and Ukraine should hold direct talks to stop this conflict. India is cooperating with the international community to resolve the issues arising out of the conflict in Ukraine. India has sent aid to Ukraine in 11 phases, including 97.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid. Kamboj informed that Indian humanitarian assistance is being provided to the Ukrainian people through Romania, Moldova, Slovakia and Poland, the neighbours of Ukraine. Ruchira Kamboj also mentioned that these neighbouring countries of Ukraine had also assisted India in rescuing 22,500 Indians stranded in Ukraine after the conflict started.

Russia and Ukraine are considered to be the bread-basket countries of the world. Many countries are supplied with wheat, maize, barley, sunflower oil and fertilizers from Russia and Ukraine. But after the outbreak of conflict, this supply from both countries was cut off. This has led to food shortages in some countries, and claims are being made that some countries are on the brink of a starvation crisis. At such a time, India is trying to find a way out of the problem these countries face by using its capacities. Ambassador Kamboj also mentioned this in her speech at the Security Council. India has supplied wheat to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan and Yemen.

Along with this, Kamboj informed that India had initiated steps to increase production to overcome the shortage of fertilizers and other agriculture-related things. Before this, India supplied vaccines and medicines to many countries. Kamboj assured that India would continue to contribute to the world for the security of food, health and energy in times of crisis and even in the future.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council voted on a resolution to allow Ukrainian President Zelensky to address the Security Council via video teleconference. Russia objected to this. But except for Russia, all the member countries of the UN Security Council voted in favour of this resolution. This includes India as well. This is the first time that India has voted against Russia on the Ukraine issue. Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, India has until now adopted a policy of abstention in the UN Security Council, avoiding voting against Russia. However, the Ukrainian President’s address to the Security Council is not a big deal. India’s vote in favour of the resolution is unlikely to affect Indian cooperation with a mature ally like Russia.
