Impose strict sanctions against Pakistan who has confessed to Pulwama attack, demand EU lawmakers

Brussels: – A Pakistani Minister had confessed in the Pakistan parliament that the Pulwama attack, in which 40 Indian soldiers were martyred, was perpetrated by the Imran Khan government. The European parliament has taken serious cognisance of this confession. Members of the European Parliament have demanded imposition of strict sanctions against Pakistan and have also ordered a detailed investigation into the Pulwama attack.

Pakistan Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhry had boldly accepted the responsibility of the Pulwama attack. Fawad’s statement, ‘We entered India and carried out an attack’, is creating severe problems for the Imran Khan government. The Indian media have highlighted the confession and have started crushing criticism that Pakistan is a terrorist country. European parliamentarians, Thierry Mariani, Julie Lechanteux, Virginie Joron and France Jamet, have lashed out at Pakistan in their letter written to Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.

The European committee should strongly criticise the involvement of Pakistani Prime Minister and the Government in the Pulwama attack. At the same time, the European Union (EU) should impose strict sanctions against all those connected. The European lawmakers also reminded that Prime Minister Imran Khan had referred to Osama Bin Laden as a martyr while speaking in the Pakistan parliament. The European lawmakers accused that during the tenure of this government, Pakistan came to be known as a sponsor of terrorism.

It is not correct on the part of the EU, to keep quiet, while attacks are being carried out on innocent civilians. Immediate action should be taken against those confessing to a terror attack. These lawmakers suggested that at the same time, it should also be investigated if Pakistan had a hand in the terror attacks in Europe. Pakistani media and analysts are expressing fears that the repercussions of the blunt confession by the Pakistani Minister will be felt on the international level. The Pakistani analysts are also expressing concerns that India will get Pakistan included in the FATF Black List citing the confession and will get international sanctions imposed against Pakistan.

The aggressive stand adopted by the EU lawmakers indicates that the fears of the Pakistani analysts and journalists are becoming a reality. The governments till today had adopted a policy to keep out of the controversy, by closing their ears, even after carrying out the terror attacks. But this Minister in the Imran Khan government, in an effort to show his pride in the country’s bravery, confessed to a cowardly attack and caused all-round embarrassment for Pakistan.
