New Delhi: Even as the counting of votes was ongoing, the victory of the presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu was certain. After that, Murmu was showered with congratulatory messages from around the country. Droupadi Murmu will soon take office as the country’s first president of the Adivasi community. Her selection is being welcomed from all over the country. Droupadi Murmu will become the first President of the country born after independence. The National Democratic Alliance – NDA had announced the candidature of Droupadi Murmu for the post of President. Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha was the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate. The President is elected by a majority of members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Legislative Assemblies across the country. Droupadi Murmu has won a majority in this election which was held on the 18th July. Droupadi Murmu’s huge lead had already ensured her victory even as the counting was ongoing.
Droupadi Murmu, who comes from the tribal community of Santhal in Odisha, has a very simple background. She completed his education under challenging circumstances. She started her political career in 1997 as a corporator. From 2000 to 2004, she served as a minister in the Odisha government. In 2015, she was elected as the Governor of Jharkhand. Till 2021, she served as the Governor of Jharkhand.
Political analysts say that Murmu’s journey to the country’s highest office against extreme odds is inspiring. Political analysts welcome this representation of the tribal community by saying that her election to the post of President is a glory of the country’s democracy.
