Cyberattack against Portuguese military network wipes out sensitive NATO information

Brussels: Confidential and sensitive NATO information goes missing after a major cyberattack on the computer networks of the apex military system of Portugal, which is a NATO member. Subsequently, this information was made available for sale on the deep web. This is the second instance in the past two months where NATO-related information has been hacked and revealed. Last month, the hackers stole information about the missile systems of MBDA Systems, a leading European defence company.

According to the reports, the computer networks of The Armed Forces General Staff agency of Portugal (EMGFA), the apex military system in Portugal, have been under cyberattack using bots for several months. In the latest cyber-attack, information related to NATO movements and equipment was stolen and made available for sale on the deep web. The US cyber-intelligence agency noticed and alerted the US embassy, warning the Portuguese government about the data breach. Following this, Portugal has assured a detailed investigation of the incident.

It is said that NATO has expressed serious concern over this incident and the Portuguese officials will be visiting NATO headquarters in the next few days.
