Beijing: Upset over Japan’s aggressive changes in its defence policy, China directly warned Japan by conducting a war exercise. China’s aircraft carrier has launched an exercise targeting Japan’s Nansei island in the Western Pacific region. Analysts say that China has threatened to attack Japanese islands in the region if Japan tries to challenge China militarily.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered the People’s Liberation Army to start an exercise near Japan’s Nansei Island. At the end of each year, China’s army and navy demonstrate their military preparedness by organizing exercises. This time, China’s Liaoning, an aircraft carrier, with the help of its destroyers, practised surrounding and attacking Nansei Island.

The 10-day exercise is underway at a distance from Nansei Island and will conclude on Monday, December 26. But it is claimed that China has warned Japan through this exercise. Nansei Island, located some distance from Taiwan’s maritime territory, is under the Japanese administration. Japan had already announced deployments for the islands’ security, given the threat to Taiwan’s security from China.
