Washington – Considering the challenges related to the United States national security, China’s threat in the cyber sector has been the biggest challenge, warned FBI Chief Christopher Ray. The FBI chief also warned that China’s Cyber Army was bigger than the combined cyber army of all other countries worldwide. He also claimed that China holds the biggest share in cyberattacks on the US personal and corporate sectors and the theft of confidential information afterwards.
On Thursday, the Chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the country’s leading investigative system, was heard in the US Congress House of Representatives. During the hearing, FBI chief Ray warned about the growing threat from China. Considering the FBI’s manpower, China’s operations have been more than 50 times of the FBI that has to fight against cyber threats, the FBI Chief warned.
Christopher Ray also claimed that the Chinese regime has ambitions to overtake the United States in cyberspace to become a superpower, for which the three-pronged strategy of lying, cheating and stealing was being used. While pointing to China’s cyber threat, the FBI Chief also made aware of the need for more manpower in the investigative system. He added that the FBI’s Cybersecurity division needs at least 200 experts and analysts.
Along with China, the FBI Chief warned that the threat in cyberspace from countries like Russia, Iran and North Korea has increased to a great extent. Ray also said there had been hundreds of ransomware attacks on the US cyber system, and their number was constantly growing.
A few days ago, the US intelligence agencies presented the Annual Threat Assessment Report (ATA), which mentioned that the US was at risk of Chinese cyberattacks in the government and private sector. It was also claimed that China could carry out cyber attacks disrupting sensitive US systems. Against this background, the FBI Chief’s warning in the US Congress becomes noteworthy.
