China provokes India by changing names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh

Beijing – China has once again resorted to provoking India as on Sunday, China’s Ministry of Civil affairs changed the names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh. China has clarified that it is not interested in resolving border disputes and improving ties with India. As China announced the name changes, India has warned that Arunachal Pradesh has and will remain an integral part of India despite any claims made by China.

Moreover, the Indian Army Chief has recently warned that although there is peace on the LAC in Ladakh, there is a high possibility of a dispute turning into a conflict. The Army Chief has assured that the Indian army is prepared for any situation on the LAC. India has organised a G20 meeting in Arunachal Pradesh in which there was no participation from China. It seems that the provocation using changing names is a reaction from China.

As China has once again provoked India by claiming stakes in Arunachal Pradesh, analysts are suggesting India be intolerant and give a strong response by raising the issue of Tibet to retaliate pressure back on China. There is a recommendation that India should take systematic steps to challenge China’s dominance in the Indo-Pacific region which would build pressure on China in a true sense.

Furthermore, China is building and increasing its significance at international levels. The latest mediation done by China to achieve reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran is considered a boost for China’s global influence. While China is trying to stop the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it is assuming the role of a superpower, much like the US. Some senior US diplomats have confirmed that China is trying to replace the US dollar with its currency Yuan as an international currency.

Amidst these activities, the economy of China is in crisis and multinational companies are moving out of China. At the same time, India seems to be getting a big share of investments from multinational companies and willingness to do business in the Indian rupee. Japan, Australia, South Korea, and member countries of ASEAN are also increasing economic and strategic cooperation with India. China is uneasy that India is challenging them on all fronts.

Meanwhile, China has realised that India cannot be threatened by military power like other neighbours. Hence China continues to put pressure on India using provocation with activities such as the recent one of changing names of places in Arunachal Pradesh.
