Berlin: ‘Taiwan is an integral part of China. The Taiwan issue is an internal Chinese matter and the ‘One China Principle’ has been accepted globally. Anyone trying to violate the principle that is the basis of cooperation between China and other countries, will be the enemy of 1.4 billion Chinese people. In that scenario, the Chinese government and even the people, will not remain quiet. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi issued a stern warning that the forces opposing China will have to pay dearly for their imprudence. Chinese Foreign Minister is currently on a visit to Europe. While his visit is going on, a delegation of the Czech Republic has reached Taiwan for a visit. The Chinese regime is immensely upset that a European delegation has visited Taiwan, while the senior Chinese minister is on a visit to Europe and the Wang Yi reaction seems to be a part of the same sentiment.

China is continuing with its arbitrary behaviour, without paying any heed to the strong opposition from the International Community. This has upset even the European countries, who have been maintaining friendly relations with China and the European Union has repeatedly expressed this displeasure in the last few months.

At the same time, China who has become a target of the United States, over the Coronavirus and other issues, it looking at Europe for support. The visit of Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Europe, is a part of the same efforts. The objectives of the Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Europe are believed to be increasing trade and economic cooperation, with the European countries and in turn, weaken the global front against China. The selection of countries by China, for the Foreign Minister’s visit, like France, Germany and Netherlands, who have taken decisive stands, also is significant. During his France visit, Chinese Foreign Minister fired a salvo of criticism at the United States, saying China does not want a new Cold War, but some aggressive groups in the United States are working towards it. At the same time, he expressed hope that Europe will mediate to defuse the tensions.

French Foreign Minister, Jean Yves Le Drian, informed that he raised the issues of atrocities against Uyghurs and Hong Kong Law, during his discussions with the Chinese Foreign Minister. This revelation by the French Foreign Minister has created problems for China and China has even made efforts for a coverup. At the same time, it was announced that three bilateral agreements were signed between Czech Republic and Taiwan in the economic and technology sectors.

The European Union is believed to have, once again, expressed its displeasure regarding China, through the statement of the French Foreign Minister and the visit of the Czech Republic delegation to Taiwan. Therefore, the sun has seemingly set on the possibility of normalising relations between the European Union and China, against the background of the Coronavirus pandemic.
