Istanbul: Turkey has stepped up attacks on Kurds. An attack in northern Syria on Thursday night killed 26 Kurds. The Turkish army announced its retaliatory action after a Turkish soldier was killed in a rocket attack by Kurdish rebels. Meanwhile, Turkey was taking action against the Kurds when a US F-16 fighter plane deployed in Syria shot down the Turkish drone. The United States has taken this action against NATO member countries, and Turkish media is drawing attention to this.
Moreover, Turkish warplanes attacked Kurdish positions in the Dabiq region in northern Syria late Thursday night. Turkey claims to have targeted at least 30 positions of Syrian Kurdish rebels known as ‘YPG’. 26 Kurdish rebels were killed during the operation, the Turkish Defence Ministry said. At the same time, local Kurdish leaders are criticising the killing of Kurdish civilians in this Turkish air strike. At the same time, Kurdish leaders are alleging that Turkey has shown the main objective of its action by launching attacks near the Kurdish-held fuel plant.
Last week, there was a bomb explosion in Ankara city of Türkiye. Alleging that a Kurdish rebel organisation was behind this, Turkey had taken action against Kurdish positions in Syria and Iraq. At the same time, information was revealed that Turkey’s security apparatus had detained at least 1,000 Kurds from different parts, including the capital Ankara. After this, Turkey was seen carrying out this action in Syria late Thursday night.
However, furious over Turkey’s action against Kurds, the United States claims to have shot down a Turkish drone. The Pentagon had earlier criticised Turkey for targeting Kurds in Syria. Besides, the Pentagon reminded that the Kurds had supported the United States in the anti-terrorism struggle in Syria.
