Russian interests cannot be ignored once Ukraine conflict is over – US Diplomat Henry Kissinger

Washington/ Moscow: Senior US Diplomat Henry Kissinger warned that defeating Russia in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and denying Russia its place as a world power are two different things. Russia’s interests cannot be denied. He further mentioned various possibilities in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Besides, Kissinger has issued statements about the Russia-Ukraine conflict twice over the last month. He has consistently raised the issue of Russian interests and location.

Moreover, Senior Diplomat Henry Kissinger‘s new book ‘Leadership: Six Studies in World Strategy’ has been published. He spoke about the Russia-Ukraine conflict at an event organized on occasion. Russia’s stance should be taken into account even if Russia is defeated in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Kissinger said. At the same time, he clarified that currently, there are three possibilities to end the conflict.

‘In the first instance, Russia may occupy the part of Ukraine that it currently controls. If that happens, it will be a victory for Russia and NATO’s role will not be decisive,’ Kissinger said. ‘The second possibility is that Russia could take action to seize the territory it has won so far, including Crimea, from Ukraine. It could prolong the conflict against Russia,’ said the US diplomat.

‘The third possibility is that the situation will develop before Russia invades Ukraine in February. In it, Ukraine will once again build up the territory under its control and NATO will arm Ukraine,’ Kissinger claimed. Earlier in May, while speaking at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Kissinger suggested that Ukraine should give some of its territories to Russia if it wanted to work for a peace deal in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In contrast, in an interview with UK’s Times newspaper last month, he warned that if Russia should not become the Chinese centre of influence in Europe, Western countries should consider Russia’s interests.
