The Army’s Commanders’ Conference began on Monday and will focus on national security during the five-day conference. The meeting will also evaluate the security challenges in the region, particularly along the borders with China and Pakistan, and the readiness of the defence forces to tackle them. China has claimed Arunachal Pradesh as its territory for the past few days. At the same time, photographs of China building a new runway near Lhasa, Tibet, were published. This again brings to the fore that China is preparing to increase pressure on India by developing military infrastructure in areas along the LAC.

Against this background, the Defence Minister mentioned the LAC prominently while addressing Monday’s Army Commanders’ Conference. India and China have been discussing easing tensions along the LAC in Ladakh, with talks expected to continue. However, the tension on the LAC has still been there, and in such a situation, the central government fully supports the Army. The central government has been prioritizing the delivery of advanced weapons, defence equipment and warm clothing to the soldiers, required in the extreme weather conditions along the LAC in Ladakh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that border security was the highest priority of the central government.

At the same time, the Defence Minister also appreciated the work done by Border Roads Organisation-BRO for building good roads on LAC. Also, the Defence Minister expressed his belief, at this time, that the Indian Army was fully prepared to face any unpredictable situation on the LAC.

Given the geopolitical developments at the international level, the threat of unconventional, hybrid war is possible along with conventional war in the coming times. Also, cyber, information and communication systems, trade and finance sectors cannot be separated from the next warfare. Therefore, while preparing for future war, the Defence Minister made aware that the defence forces would have to plan their tactics considering all these things.
