The European Union will declare Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as terrorists – Iran criticises European Union

Berlin/Tehran – The European Union has considered including the Revolutionary Guards, which have been acting on protesters in Iran, on the list of terrorist organisations. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced that the federation would take such action soon. Uneased by the possible action on its key military organisation, Iran has fired a salvo of criticism back at European Union member states, including Germany. Also, Iran warned that bilateral relations with Iran would deteriorate if such action is taken.

The European Union will declare Iran's Revolutionary Guards as terrorists - Iran criticises European UnionThe action taken by the Revolutionary Guards to disperse the protests that have erupted in Iran for the past six weeks has been criticised by the US and European countries as violating human rights. Germany’s Foreign Minister Baerbock had claimed that the demand to impose restrictions on the Revolutionary Guards was gaining momentum in Europe. For this, the EU may soon add the Revolutionary Guards to the list of terrorist organisations. German Foreign Minister indicated that if this happens, the action of sanctions against Iran’s military group will be easier.

Enraged by this, Iran’s Foreign Ministry targeted the European Union, including Germany. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that Germany and the EU were making a wrong decision regarding Iran and its people. The concerned countries and organisations will reconsider their decision and make efforts to ensure that relations with Iran do not deteriorate. Iran’s Foreign Ministry believed these countries would not prioritise political and emotional decisions.

The US has already listed Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation. In talks with the Biden administration, eager to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran had demanded that the Revolutionary Guards be removed from the list. The Biden administration had prepared for this. But the Biden administration had to withdraw from this following domestic opposition and a strong reaction from Israel. Thus, this nuclear deal has stalled. In such a situation, the European Union also indicated including the Revolutionary Guards in the list of terrorist organisations. An upset Iran seems to be warning the federation against it.

Meanwhile, listing the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation could pave the way for economic and military action on the Revolutionary Guards in Iraq and Syria. So it seems that Iran is warning the federation.
