Twenty-one incidents of firing were reported from New York, and 26 people were killed in these incidents. The New York police department informed that this is an increase of 40% in the violent incidents in New York, as compared to the last year. Sixteen people were killed in the violent incidents in Chicago, and more than 70 people were injured. It is said that a soldier from the Army National Guard was also killed in the violence in Chicago.

As per the information given by The Gun Violence Archives, there have been 18 incidents of mass shootings in the last 72 hours, and 18 people were killed in them. Analysts claimed that because of these incidents of gun violence in the previous 72 hours, it could be said that the situation in the United States is returning to normal. Since the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic nearly a year ago, there had been a decline in gun violence incidents. But now, the restrictions have been relaxed in many of the US states. Therefore, the number of citizens going out in the open has increased. Some people are giving a surprising explanation that this is the reason for the increase in incidents of violence.

It is said that the increasing violence in the United States is attributed to the campaigns like ‘defund the police’, intense political differences and increasing purchases of guns. Many policemen have resigned because of the ‘defund the police’ campaign and the constant accusations being levelled against the police. The Coronavirus pandemic also has claimed the lives of many policemen. This has created a shortage of manpower in the police department. The think tank, The Gun Violence Archive, informed that more than 10,000 people had been killed in gun violence this year. The 150 victims of gun violence over the last 72 hours have brought the gun control issue once again on the anvil in the United States.
