What are thousands of US soldiers doing in Islamabad instead of India, a US ally, questions Pak opposition

Islamabad: – Thousands of US troops that left Afghanistan have reached Islamabad, the Pakistani capital. Pakistan’s opposition leaders have accused the Pakistani government of booking rooms of US troops in hotels in Islamabad. While India is a strategic ally of the US, why are US troops stationed in the Pakistani capital? Opposition parties and the media are attacking the Pakistani government by asking such a question. However, Interior Security Minister Sheikh Rasheed has defended the US military’s temporary presence in Islamabad.

About 2,192 US troops have arrived in Islamabad through the Torkham border with Afghanistan and about 1,627 by air. Some US troops entered from the border at Chaman. But this is a common occurrence after the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. These US troops will not be in Islamabad for a long time, but only for 21 to 30 days. They have been granted a visa for this period, Pakistan’s Interior Minister said. But his defence is unlikely to satisfy the opposition.

The United States has indicated that it will deploy troops at the bases in Pakistan after the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has responded by saying, ‘Absolutely not.’ This was welcomed by his supporters. But now, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government has succumbed to US pressure. Criticism began in Pakistani social media that it is evident that thousands of American troops were stationed in Islamabad. Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, leader of the opposition Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, alleged that the Pakistani government had vacated hotels in Islamabad and booked rooms for the US troops. ‘While India is a strategic ally of the US, why did the US military come to the capital of Pakistan. Siraj-ul-Haq, the leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, has asked the Pakistani government why the US troops did not go to India. Siraj-ul-Haq also pointed out that despite all the Pakistani support to the United States in Afghanistan, the US President is not ready to talk to the Pakistani Prime Minister on the phone.

After the 9/11 attacks, the then-dictator of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, showed his readiness to fully cooperate with the United States in the war on terror in Afghanistan. Whether Imran Khan’s government has taken Pakistan back to Musharraf’s time is being discussed on social media. Even senior Pakistani journalists have expressed surprise as to why the US military is staying in Pakistan instead of going to India.

The claim exacerbated by US troops’ presence in Islamabad that the Pakistani government, which earlier showed self-respect, has now succumbed to US pressure. Also, if there is a secret agreement between the US and the Pakistan government, then why the details of this deal are not made public? Such discussions have also started in the Pakistani media. Pakistani analysts are also making it clear that if the Pakistani government cooperates secretly with the United States, it will have to bear the brunt of the Taliban’s wrath.

The leaders and members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a terrorist organisation wreaking havoc in Pakistan, are under the Taliban shelter in Afghanistan. Using them, the Taliban could launch a vicious spate of saboteur activities in Pakistan. These Pakistani analysts are pointing out that the Taliban is holding Pakistan hostage with this strategy. It is now becoming clear that Pakistan, which is celebrating the Taliban victory in Afghanistan, will have to bear the serious consequences. This was foretold by the intelligentsia of Pakistan. The threat has now begun to realise with pro-Taliban extremist Pakistani journalists and analysts starting to criticising the Taliban.
