Western countries should give due importance to the interests of Gulf countries, appeals GCC

London/Tehran: -The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has appealed that the western countries should consider the concerns of the Gulf countries regarding security and stability and, after that, hold talks with Iran in Vienna. GCC warned, ‘The Iranian announcement regarding Uranium enrichment is dangerous. This Iranian announcement increases concerns regarding the security on the global level along with the Gulf sector.’ In contrast, the Iranian foreign ministry has accused the GCC of trying to influence the talks.

Against the background of these talks, important meetings of the GCC and Arab League were held. After this, Nayef al-Hajraf, chief of the GCC, sent letters to the Foreign Ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. He presented the issues raised by the Gulf countries in these letters.

The letter notes that GCC is a significant contributor to the peace and stability in the Gulf sector. Saying, ‘The negotiations being held in Vienna cannot be limited to the Iranian nuclear program. Instead, the instability created in the sector, ballistic missiles, and the Iran affiliated armed organisations should also be the issues in the Vienna negotiations.’ GCC has warned that the western countries address this issue with a more comprehensive outlook.

The GCC chief pointed to the Iranian announcement, which was made a few days ago, regarding uranium enrichment. Al-Hajraf has expressed an expectation through his letter, ‘Iran has taken uranium enrichment to 60% level. This Iranian announcement is suggestive of a threat to the security at the regional as well as international level and is a major cause for concern. Therefore, the international community should take a stand against these dangerous developments.’

Chief of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul, also criticised the GCC Chief regarding the Iranian announcement of uranium enrichment. He blamed, ‘Iran is taking clear and specific steps towards nuclear bomb development. It is clear from this decision of uranium enrichment. Therefore, there are doubts regarding the objectives of the Iranian nuclear program.’ He also appealed that discussions should be held on the issue of the interference of Iran and its affiliated organisations in the functioning of the Arab countries.

Meanwhile, before this, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had made a demand with the United States that the Gulf countries should be included in the discussions regarding the Iranian nuclear program. France had welcomed this demand. But the Biden administration in the United States seems to have completely ignored this demand of the Gulf countries.
