US President Biden ends US support to Saudi-led offensive in Yemen -

Washington: US President Joe Biden, who is overhauling the US foreign policy, stopped the military aid to Saudi Arabia. President Biden announced, ‘The weapons supply to Saudi Arabia for using against the Houthi rebels in Yemen is being stopped. The disputes in Yemen will be solved through political negotiations.’ Saudi Arabia welcomed this US decision to resolve the dispute through political negotiations. But the Israeli media claimed that Biden’s decision would be beneficial to Iran, who is assisting the Houthi rebels and will increase the threats for Israel.

He stated, ‘The United States is back, diplomacy is back’, President Biden reversed many of the decisions taken by former President Donald Trump. These even include the decision to stop arms supply to Saudi Arabia to fight the Houthi rebels. President Biden criticised that the Yemen conflict has created a humanitarian crisis in that country. Biden announced that therefore, to avert the situation, the United States stops the arms supply to Saudi Arabia to stop the war in Yemen.

President Biden said, ‘The population of Yemen is faced with never-ending destruction due to the war. To save the Yemenis population from this destruction, the United States will be supplying humanitarian aid to that country.’ Biden said that Timothy Lenderking had been appointed as the special envoy for Yemen. Simultaneously, the US president clarified that the Yemen conflict would be resolved through political negotiations between the Hadi government and the Houthi rebels. With this announcement, President Biden disposed of the decision taken by former President Trump to include the Houthi rebels in the list of terrorist organisations.

Saudi Arabia welcomed the decision to find a political solution to the Yemen conflict. Saudi Arabia announced that it supports the initiation for talks between the warring groups in Yemen. But the Israeli media is expressing concerns over the announcement made by the US President. The Israeli press is pointing out that the statement made by President Biden spells victory for the Houthi rebels and their supporter Iran. A possibility of destabilising Yemen is also being predicted. Under the cover of this conflict, Iran has tested its weapon systems in Yemen. The Israeli media reminded that these included the missiles capable of targeting the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh and the southern Israeli cities. Meanwhile, the Houthi rebels had declared a month ago that they have the capability to launch an attack on Israel.
