US rebukes China over arrest of 12 democracy activists from Hong Kong

Washington/ Beijing: Last month, China had arrested 12 democratic activists from Hong Kong. Hence, the United States has expressed serious concern over it. US State Secretary, Mike Pompeo, has accused China of violating the human rights of these activists. In response, the Chinese foreign ministry said that China had arrested rebels. At the same time, China has imposed sanctions on the political rights of the United States. Hence, the US-China conflict has escalated furthermore.

In July, China imposed the National Security Law in Hong Kong; the world has outraged ever since. China arrested and detained numerous demonstrators who protested against this law. The democratic activists from Hong Kong have been incarcerated. The repression China has caused under the guise of National Security Law has caused outrage from all around the world.    

Last month, the maritime police of Guangdong province, China, had arrested 12 democratic activists from Hong Kong. It is said that these activists were on their way to Taiwan to seek political refuge. The US State Secretary Mike Pompeo said that ever since their arrest, China has not revealed the identities of the activists. Moreover, it has not allowed any lawyer to reach to them. This raises doubt about the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam’s methods of safeguarding Hong Kong citizens.    

Moreover, the Spokesperson for the US State Department, Morgan Ortagus, said that this arrest is an example of oppression being carried out in Hong Kong. After the United States criticised this movement, the Chinese foreign ministry responded that the arrested 12 people were crossing the maritime region illegally. Furthermore, China added that these 12 people are not democratic activists, but rebels that want to separate Hong Kong from China. However, the relatives of these 12 activists have gravely accused Chinese administration and demanded their release.     

Meanwhile, the US-China conflict over Hong Kong has escalated furthermore. Also, the Chinese Communist Regime has imposed sanctions on US government officials working in China and Hong Kong. Earlier, China had already imposed restrictions on the US political officials. It had also announced a new set of constraints with it.
