US bomber hovers over the islands in the South China Sea

Third World WarWashington: The nuclear capable bomber jets of the United States have circled around the Spratly islands in the South China Sea. Tension was created between United States and China at the Shangri La Dialogue held in Singapore. In view of this, the surveillance by the United States bombers over Spratly islands could add to the tension.

A leading United States news channel, said that the B-52 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons hovered over the Spratly islands on Monday, on the basis of the information given by a defence department official. China has claimed the right over Spratly islands in the South China Sea. The flights of the US fighter jets and sailing of US warships within the limits of these islands has already been a cause for tension between the two countries. It is therefore claimed that  the flight of these nuclear capable bombers of the United States in the region will only add to the tension.

US bomberBut the spokesperson of the US Pacific command, Captain Victoria White, has dismissed the claim of the news channel. Captain Victoria White informed that the United States bombers did not fly close to the Spratly islands. The United States bombers deployed on the Guam islands in the Pacific Ocean, recently visited the Diego Garcia islands in the Indian Ocean. But during this entire flight, the bombers did not fly close to the Spratly islands, said Captain White.

There is a tremendous tension between the United States and China regarding the South China Sea. There was a verbal war over the South China Sea issue, between the United States and Chinese leaders at the Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore. US Secretary of Defence, James Mattis had accused China of creating an atmosphere of terror among the South-East Asian countries by militarising the islands in the region. Mattis also clarified that the United States will continue its patrolling to ensure freedom of movement for the sea freight carriers.
