US senators criticise Biden administration over US weapons falling into the hands of Taliban

Washington: – US weapons, worth billions of dollars, including Super Tucano planes, Black Hawk helicopters, armoured vehicles, M4 carbines, M16 rifles and so on, have fallen into the hands of the Taliban. According to media reports, Taliban militants dropped AK-47 rifles at various locations and have been equipped with US weapons. Biden’s decision to withdraw troops has sparked criticism that weapons purchased with US taxpayer money have fallen into the hands of the Taliban. Twenty-five US senators have demanded an explanation from the Biden administration. A few days ago, the demand for impeachment of President Biden had been made in the United States.

President Biden has shrugged off the responsibility of the Taliban’s success in Afghanistan, saying it was a failure of the Afghan government, its military and Afghan people. Biden’s remarks drew strong criticism from within the United States. Former President Donald Trump has termed the military withdrawal from Afghanistan the most embarrassing event in US history. In the past few days, photographs and videos of armed Taliban militants have surfaced, sparking outrage among the American public.

The Taliban are using a large stockpile of weapons, including pistols, rifles, shotguns, night vision goggles, missiles and military vehicles used by US troops and gifted to Afghan troops. Earlier, it had been revealed that Super Tucano planes, Black Hawks helicopters and Scan Eagle drones had fallen into the hands of the Taliban due to the rapid withdrawal of US troops. Some analysts have claimed that the Taliban did not have a pilot to use the aircraft. But the release of a video of Taliban militants flying helicopters has increased concerns among military analysts.

Against this backdrop, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Bill Cassidy, and 22 other senators sent letters of concern and answers to Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. The letter criticises that the Taliban and its affiliates received a gift of sophisticated weapons purchased with US taxpayers’ money due to a very irresponsible military withdrawal. The senators demanded that the Biden administration accept responsibility for all this and make a detailed statement.

The letter demands that it should have been the priority of the US Department of Defence to secure these weapons before withdrawing from Afghanistan. The letter also asked for details of how many weapons the United States has supplied, to the Afghan army, over the past year. Opposition groups demanded President Biden’s resignation, saying the weak Biden administration is responsible for the situation in Afghanistan. Former President Trump has also accused that China and Russia will benefit immensely because of Biden. The demand for the impeachment of Biden has intensified further since then.

Even media groups that strongly supported Biden a few months ago are now criticising him. The US public opinion is against Biden, and some news agencies have claimed that Donald Trump would easily defeat Biden if the presidential election were to be held in the current times.
