The Kurds had set huge camps to the South and Southeast of Iraq. But, troubled due to the exploitation by Turkish extremists since 1998, thousands of Kurdish refugee flee to Iraq. There are about 12,000 Kurds in this camp set in Makhmur, Iraq, about 180 kilometres away from the Turkish border. But, Turkey has accused that this camp set in Makhmur shelters the rebels from the Kurdistan Workers Party-PKK that pose a threat to the Turkish security.

Turkey has declared PKK a terrorist organisation. Two days ago, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had compared the Makhmur refugee camp to PKK’s military base at Mount Qandil. Moreover, Erdogan warned that Makhmur could become a massive PKK terrorist incubator if timely action is not taken; he thus, threatened to attack the Kurdish refugee camp in Iraq. On Thursday, President Erdogan proved his threat right by carrying out drone attacks.

The Kurdish leaders in Iraq parliament accused Turkey of drone-attacking a kindergarten school near the camp. However, the number of dead children has not yet been disclosed. The Kurdish leader warned that Turkey has committed a grave mistake by attacking the Kurdish refugee camp. This Turkish drone attack on the camp can receive international backlash. Last month, in its report, the United Nations accused Turkey of attacking Libya with an autonomous drone. Thus, this attack can raise concerns for Turkey furthermore.

Meanwhile, during World War II, the Kurd community got divided and spread across five countries. As a result, the Kurdish people in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and Armenia now demand a separate nation called Kurdistan. As per the accusation, over the last six decades, the Western countries used and exploited the Kurds for their political interests.

But now, the Kurds will not sit still unless Kurdistan is created, the Kurdish rebels say confidently. The Kurds in Iraq and Syria are making comprehensive efforts for this. Besides, Turkey, which believes that this movement can pose a threat to its unity, has started attacking Kurds heavily by intruding into Iraq. Turkey will have to face the consequences of these actions in future, said the Kurdish leader.
