A few months ago, Nyima Tenzin, a Tibetan soldier from Special Frontier Force (SFF) was martyred during a conflict near the Line of Actual Control. India has taken special cognisance of the sacrifice of this soldier of Tibetan origin. The Indian jolt to China and the martyrdom of a Tibetan soldier has become a major motivating factor for the Tibetans around the world. This has given new energy to the agitation of the Tibetan people against China, and it is receiving increasing support even from the Indian population.

At the same time, the participation of the Tibetan people is seen to be increasing in the protests being held in the United States, Canada, the European countries, including the United Kingdom, as also Australia and Japan. The Tibetan issue seems to be coming on the anvil, once again. Since the last few months, the demand for independent Tibet is also gaining ground. A few months ago, Dr Lobsang Sangay, the chief of the Tibetan government in exile, had appealed that the India-China border should be referred to as India-Tibet border.
