Stringent measures can avoid the third wave: PM’s scientific advisor K Vijay Raghavan

New Delhi: – Experts warn about the third wave of Coronavirus pandemic even when the second wave has not ended. They still search answers for questions like, ‘How big will be this third wave?’, ‘When will it come?’, ‘How many will be infected in this third wave?’. But the experts warn that the nation should be prepared to counter the third wave. Against this background, Prime Minister’s scientific advisor, K Vijay Raghavan, clarified that avoiding the third wave is in our hands. Raghavan had said that everything would depend on stringent measures and strict implementation.

More than 400,000 new cases and nearly 4,000 deaths are being reported from around the country every day. On Friday morning, 414,000 new cases and 3,915 deaths were reported in the 24 hours. This has taken the total number of deaths due to Coronavirus to 234,000. 21.4 million cases of Coronavirus have been reported from the country so far.   

At the beginning of March, the number of Coronavirus cases in some states suddenly started rising. On the 1st of March, 12,000 cases were reported in one day. This number rose to 95,000 to 100,000 within one month. Whereas the current number of new cases is nearly 425,000 per day. During the first wave, this number had touched nearly 98,000 per day in September. After that, the wave started receding. Therefore, this second wave is proving to be far more dangerous. In this situation, the experts are claiming that there is a possibility of a third wave.   

On Thursday, Prime Minister’s scientific advisor K Vijay Raghavan, while issuing a warning regarding the third wave, said that this was possible. But that can be avoided. Raghavan said that it depends on the strict implementation. The guidelines issued in respect of Coronavirus have to be strictly followed. If the rules are strictly followed on the local level, the wave will not reach everywhere. The wave will be limited only to certain areas.’  

Meanwhile, on Friday, 898 Coronavirus patients died and more than 54,000 new cases were reported in Maharashtra. Karnataka reported 48,781 new cases and 592 deaths. Kerala reported 38,460 new cases and 54 deaths. Uttar Pradesh reported 372 deaths and 28,000 new cases. 19,000 new cases were detected in Delhi and 341 patients died due to Coronavirus.
