The world must prepare for a new pandemic, warns WHO Director-General  

New Delhi – “The Coronavirus will not be the last pandemic, but when the next pandemic comes, the world must be ready, more ready than it was this time,” said the WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

So far, history has taught us that such epidemics are part of life. Hence, the Coronavirus cannot be considered as the last pandemic. The world must prepare furthermore for the next pandemic, said WHO Director-General, Tedros.

In December 2019, China had declared to have found first Covid patient in its country. Currently, the number of Covid death toll is over 8,88,000; and so far, 2 crores 71 lakh people are infected with Covid. As the number of Covid cases in India is on the rise with 90,000 patients per day, this warning by the WHO Director-General draws serious attention.   

The countries across the globe must primarily focus on improving the public healthcare facility. Despite having advanced technology, some nations are still lagging in paying attention to public healthcare. It is mandatory for every country to pay special attention to the public healthcare facilities, asserted the WHO Director-General.   

Meanwhile, on Monday, the WHO spokesperson, Dr Margaret Harris, said that even the vaccine that has passed the advanced stage of clinical tests is just about 50% effective. Furthermore, she added that by 2021, the world cannot expect any vaccine or extensive cure over the pandemic.
