Most wanted Terrorist Abdul Qureshi arrested in New Delhi

New Delhi: Abdul Qureshi alias Taukeer, a terrorist known as the Indian ‘Osama Bin Laden’ was arrested in New Delhi. Abdul Qureshi was absconding since the serial bomb blasts in Gujrat and Delhi in 2008. The intelligence agencies have issued a warning of terrorist attacks on the Republic Day. This arrest becomes important against that background.

He had travelled to some foreign country knowing that the police were trailing him after the Gujrat and Delhi blasts. It has been revealed that he located himself at Nepal first and then moved to Saudi. There were 56 dead and 200 injured in the Gujarat blasts, where as Delhi blasts had taken a toll of 30 dead and 130 injured.

Qureshi who is an engineer, had come in contact with SIMI in 1998. He started working with Indian Mujahideen thereafter. He was an expert in making bombs. According to the information with the police, he was involved with many terrorist activities other than the Gujrat and Delhi blasts. There was a reward of four lakh rupees on his head.

The security agencies have succeeded in dismantling the networks of SIMI and Indian Mujahideen over the last few years. Many of the terrorists have been killed and many others have been arrested. As the first ranks of terrorists in the organisation were destroyed, it is said that Qureshi was here to recreate the network of the organisation.

The police are trying to investigate who Qureshi was to meet in Delhi. The Qureshi arrest gains significance as the intelligence agencies had already warned of terrorist strikes on this Republic Day. It is forecasted that a big plot of terrorist acts has been foiled due to this arrest. The police have not disclosed any details about the matter.
