Temperatures in Australia skyrocket as a result of record breaking heat wave

Canberra: Australia is reeling under a severe heat wave. The adverse effects of the heat wave in Australia are seen in different parts of the country. The temperature in Sydney, one of Australia’s prime cities, has passed 47 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature to have been recorded in the city in the last 8 decades. About 49 areas in the state of Victoria with more than 8 thousand hectors of land have been burned down by forest fire outbreaks. While a highway near Melbourne melted due to the heat, New South Wales saw the deaths of hundreds of birds.

In the last three days, it is seen that the heat wave has engulfed most of the country. The affected areas include Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales.

The state of Victoria is the most adversely affected, with about 49 outbreaks of forest fires. As a result of these outbreaks, hundreds of homes lost power supply, and more than 8000 hectares of area has been burned down. Locals reported that about 300 firemen, 50 trucks and 3 helicopters were deployed to get the fires under control. Australia’s second largest city, Melbourne also reported cases of forest fires.

As a result of rising temperatures, many regions apart from Victoria have expressed apprehension at to the looming threat of forest fires; because of this, along with Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania have been ordered a fire ban. It was reported that about 10 kilometres of Victoria’s Hume highway has melted due to the intense heat.

Capital city of New South wales, Sydney broke the record for the highest temperature recorded in the last 8 decades. This Sunday the temperature recorded was 47.3 degrees Celsius, before which the highest temperature recorded was 47.8 degrees Celsius in 1939. Local media reported that due to the rise in temperature about 7000 houses in the state of New South Wales have lost power supply.

According to sources, Campbell town in New South Wales saw the deaths of hundreds of birds, primarily Bats, due to the heat.
