Taliban to resume its way of ‘justice’ of killings & amputations, announces Mullah Nuruddin Turabi, senior Taliban leader

Kabul: – Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, a senior Taliban leader, said, ‘Others should not try to preach about laws to us. We will enforce laws in our own way. Killing and amputation of arms are necessary for the security of Afghanistan, and these punishments will be resumed’. But Turabi claimed that the sentences would not be carried out in public, claiming this was a major change in the Taliban. Turabi’s announcement comes as a shock to those who have sided with the Taliban at the United Nations and international forums. This has completely dispelled the claims that the Taliban has changed.

Turabi, who co-founded the Taliban like Mullah Omar and Mullah Baradar, dismissed the criticism of the Taliban‘s judicial process. Turabi warned, ‘The Taliban have never criticised law and justice systems in other countries. Therefore, the international community should not interfere in the justice system of Afghanistan.’ Turabi claimed that women judges might have a place in the Taliban’s new judiciary, but the sentences will remain the same.

The entire world had seen the horrific punishments meted out to Afghans by the Taliban two decades ago. The Taliban had sentenced the accused to be shot in the head in a football stadium, standing in a square, cutting off the hands of petty thieves and chopping the arms and legs of big thieves. Turabi said the same punishments would be carried out again. However, saying that it could be considered that these punishments are not executed in open stadiums, Turabi claimed that this was a significant change in the Taliban.

Turabi said that Afghans would subsequently be allowed to have TVs and mobiles, as this is the need of the hour. Turabi warned, ‘Mobile plays an important role in delivering messages to billions of people around the world. But if anyone makes the punishments public by sharing videos, an appropriate message will be delivered to those who break the Taliban’s rule.’

Turabi’s announcement has let down all those who claimed that the Taliban have changed. Supporting such a brutal regime is no longer easy, even for Pakistan or China. By making new announcements every day, the Taliban is increasing the difficulties for its supporters as it exposes the cruel face of the Taliban to the world. This has fuelled hatred for the Taliban and its supporters around the world.
