Taipei/Beijing: Following the pressure exerted by China, Guyana, the country in the American continent, has cancelled the agreement with Taiwan. A strong reaction has been received from Taiwan over this Chinese action, and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen warned that Taiwan would not bow in front of the Chinese bullying and pressure. In the last month, Taiwan and Guyana signed an agreement for starting trade and diplomatic offices.

But a very intense reaction was received from China, following the statements of Taiwan and the United States.

The Chinese foreign ministry warned that the concerned country should refrain from opening an official Taiwanese trade office and correct its mistakes. Within the next few hours of the Chinese warning, Guyana announced withdrawal from the agreement with Taiwan. Guyanese President Irfan Ali announced that relations with China are crucial for Guyana, and it will continue with the same policy.

Currently, 15 countries have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, and these include a few Pacific island nations.
