Seven Indian states hit by excessive rains and floods

New Delhi: – Many Indian states are facing the crisis of excessive rains, while the Coronavirus cases are increasing by the day. Seven states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are facing a grave situation due to excessive rains and many districts are submerged in floods. Hundreds of villages in Uttar Pradesh are submerged and 16 districts of Bihar have been flooded. High alerts have been issued regarding the water levels in more than 100 dams in Gujarat. 50% of Rajasthan is said to be submerged. Whereas, 100 roads have been closed due to incessant rain and landslides.

india-floodsThe situation has become grave in Bihar, given the incessant rains, since the last few days. 130 villages in 16 districts have been submerged in floods and 8.4 million citizens have been affected. 27 people have been reported dead in the state till date. The river Ganga has crossed the danger level and many villages have been submerged. The situation has become worse as the Bagmati, Buddhi, Gandak, Khirai and some other rivers also have crossed the danger level, along with the Ganga. The administration is making efforts to rescue the citizens. But the floods are creating obstacles in rescue operations.   

The situation is no different in Uttar Pradesh. Three rivers have crossed the danger levels. More than 1,000 villages have been hit by floods, because of this. There are incessant rains in Madhya Pradesh since the last 2 days. The weather bureau has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in view of the low-pressure area, building in the upper part of the Bay of Bengal. Due to heavy rains, the levels of the Baran and Zalawad rivers are rising, in the state of Rajasthan. Sources informed that floods rule half the state.   

High alerts have been issued for more than 100 dams in Gujarat. 44 rivers and 41 lakes are overflowing due to incessant rains. The situation is grave in West Bengal, given heavy rains. 100 roads including 4 highways have been closed because of landslides, caused by incessant rains, in Uttarakhand. Travellers using the NH 58 are facing severe hardships as the highway is closed for the last 20 days. The states and the union government, have started coordinated efforts for disaster management, recognising the flood threat. The weather department has predicted heavy rains in Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch.
