Three Saudi Princes arrested for forming a coup to take over power

Third World WarWashington/Riyadh: Three princes from the Saudi Arabian royal family were arrested on Friday by the Royal Guards. A leading US daily has reported that this action was taken since they were planning a coup to overthrow the current regime of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The US newspaper said that King Salman’s Brother and the King’s nephews were a part of this coup. Death punishment or life imprisonment can be awarded for this serious crime in Saudi Arabia.

These include King Salman’s brother and the heir to the throne, Prince Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Whereas, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef was announced to be the successor to King Salman three years ago has also been arrested. It is claimed that Prince Nawaf Bin Nayef, the younger brother of Prince Mohammed bin Nayef was also involved in the coup.

Neither the Saudi Royal Family nor the concerned agencies have reacted on this report carried by the US newspaper. But security has been beefed up in capital Riyadh and other major cities in the last few hours. Prince Ahmed, in the past, has openly criticised his brother and his polity. Prince Ahmed had accused King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of being responsible for the Yemen conflict. Whereas, Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef had been placed under house arrest as he had taken an open stand against King Salman.

Even in the past, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has placed nearly 150 people including senior members of the royal family, big industrialists in Saudi, professionals and military officials, under house arrest in a five-star hotel, accusing them of serious offences. Thereafter, all these people were released following successful negotiations with King Salman.

Meanwhile, it is being claimed that the grip of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has become tighter on the Saudi throne with this action taken on Friday.
