Defence Minister unveils model of anti-satellite missile from Mission Shakti

New Delhi: Model of the ‘Mission Shakti’ missile, which demonstrated the Indian defence might, by striking a satellite in the space, was inaugurated on Monday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the model at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Bhavan, in New Delhi. This system is being looked at as the symbol of Indian progress in the defence technology sector. While high tension is reigning on the Chinese border, India seems to have delivered an appropriate message to China.

A replica of the missile used in the Mission Shakti system has been built in the DRDO Bhavan. Reddy expressed confidence that with this, the scientist at the DRDO and youth will get inspiration to undertake more challenging projects in the future. With the success of Mission Shakti, India becomes the fourth county capable of protecting its space assets.

Last year, in March, DRDO tested the anti-satellite missile, from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. The Indian agencies demonstrated their might, in the defence technology sector, by targeting a high-velocity satellite in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This was a very complex test, but the Indian agencies targeted the satellite in the space precisely with a high-velocity missile. The development of the anti-satellite missile was completely indigenous. India demonstrated its capability to implement complex and serious missions, with this test.

India has widely exhibited its military might, over the last two months. It is claimed that India has delivered warnings to its neighbours by testing and enhancing the strike parameters of BrahMos supersonic missile along with the Rudram, SMART, HCDTV, Agni, Nag missiles. The air acrobatics of the Indian Air Force and the exercises of the Indian Navy, in the marine regions, have become targets of Chinese criticism, along with the missile tests. In this scenario, the Indian defence agencies seem to have delivered a message to China by inaugurating a model of ’Mission Shakti’.
