Poland to buy 24 combat drones from Turkey

Ankara/Warsaw: – Poland will be purchasing 24 Bayraktar TB2 combat drones from Turkey. An agreement to that effect was signed in a meeting held in Ankara on Monday. Poland becomes the first member of the European Union to purchase drones from Turkey. Before this, Turkey has supplied Bayraktar TB2 combat drones to Qatar, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Polish President Andrzej Duda is on a three-day visit to Turkey. The agreement for drones was signed during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Erdogan on Monday. At this time, Turkish President Erdogan claimed that Turkey is one of the leading 3 or 4 countries in drone manufacturing. The drones being exported by Turkey have been used in the Syria, Libya and Azerbaijan-Armenia conflicts.   

The Polish President also claimed that Turkey is the strongest ally of Poland in this region. President Duda also clarified that Poland and Turkey would face foreign threats, remaining within the framework of NATO regulations. At the same time, Turkey indicated that its F-16 fighter jets would soon reach Poland for patrolling in the Baltic region. These indications given by Turkey become significant against the background of the tension reigning between Poland and Russia.
