Wana (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa): – Pashtun citizens have started an agitation in the southern Waziristan province of Pakistan. On Sunday, the Pashtun citizens organised a massive rally, at Wana, in South Waziristan, to issue a warning to the Pakistan government and military, perpetrating terrorism in the region. Pakistan military is carrying out a genocide of the Pashtun people and the Pashtuns are also becoming victims of the increasing terrorism in the region. The agitation is against these issues. The agitators also took an aggressive stance on the issue of the abduction of youth by the Pakistan military and the other citizens who have disappeared suddenly.
Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the ‘Pashtun Tahafuz Movement’ (PTM) participated in the rally on Sunday. The terrorists are realigning in Waziristan. Waziristan is becoming a battleground, given the increasing activities of these terrorists. At the same time, the Pakistan military is showering atrocities on the Pashtun people and fake encounters are being orchestrated. Many people have gone missing. The leaders of the PTM said that this is a war-trumpet against the atrocities of the Pakistan military.
The agitators also accused that the Pakistan military has planted landmines in this region and innocent Pashtun people are becoming victims. There are reports that the Pakistan military disturbed by the massive rally, abducted and tortured some of the Pashtun leaders. But an appropriate message has been delivered to the Pakistan government and military by the sheer number of people participating in the rally. Pashtun leaders have indicated that the agitation will be intensified further.
Last year, the then spokesman of the Pakistan military, Asif Ghafoor, had accused India of having a hand in the Pashtun agitation and had bragged that the days of this movement are numbered. After that, PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen had posed an open challenge, to the military asking for evidence to prove the accusation made. It has been observed that the agitations of the Pashtun people have intensified ever since.
