Pakistani attempt to integrate Gilgit-Baltistan will prove to be a costly mistake, warn current and former Prime Minister of PoKPakistan has announced elections in Gilgit-Baltistan and it is claimed that these elections will be held in November. Pakistan leaders have announced that after the elections Gilgit-Baltistan will be declared as the fifth Pakistani province. But there is tremendous opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan, for the Imran Khan government’s plan to integrate Gilgit-Baltistan into Pakistan. Videos and photographs of thousands of people from Gilgit-Baltistan, taking to the streets, to protest against the Pakistan government and military are being published.

Raja Farooq Haider Khan, the PoK Prime Minister, has strongly opposed the move. He is being accused of being a traitor in Pakistan. Former PoK Prime Minister Sardar Ateeq Ahmed Khan also fired salvos at the Imran Khan plan. Sardar Ateeq Ahmed Khan reminded that India and Pakistan have agreed to resolve the Kashmir issue as per the United Nations resolution. Sardar Ateeq warned that conducting elections in this region and annexing it to Pakistan, despite this, will scrap the previous Pakistani position. India has already initiated the process of resettling Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. Sardar Ateeq Khan pointed out that in this scenario, if Pakistan declares Gilgit-Baltistan as the fifth province, it will stop getting any support, from the international community on the Kashmir issue.

Meanwhile, the decision to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as the fifth Pakistani province has not been taken in Imran Khan’s office. The thinktank ‘European Foundation for South Asian Studies’ claimed that the decision has been taken in the headquarters of the Pakistan military in Rawalpindi. The thinktank also said that Pakistan has taken this decision succumbing to the Chinese pressure. A new accusation has surfaced that with this decision, the Pakistan government and military are preparing to handover Gilgit-Baltistan to China. Aware of the dire consequences of such a development, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have prepared to take a decisive stand against the Pakistan government and military.
