Two days ago, Taliban militants took control of the Spin Boldak outpost near the Pakistan border in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. Taliban militants have removed the Afghan national flag from the Spin Boldak-Chaman Friendship Gate and hoisted the Taliban flag. The Taliban’s control of the Spin Boldak border, essential for trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, is dangerous. It is feared that Taliban militants will fill their coffers and use them against the Afghan government with the trade taxes collected on the border. Also, Taliban terrorists can start smuggling drugs across the border.

Against this backdrop, there are reports that the Afghan army has begun operations to regain control of the outpost and the surrounding city. But Afghan Vice President Saleh has accused Pakistan, the supporter of the Taliban, of threatening the Afghan army. Saleh, Afghanistan’s Vice President, accused, ‘Pakistan has threatened that if the Afghan army and air force make any move to push the Taliban out of the Spin Boldak outpost, they will have to face an action by the Pakistani air force.’

The Pakistan air force also threatened, ‘Afghan planes should remain 10 kilometres away from Spin Boldak. Otherwise, the Afghan fighter jets will have to deal with surface-to-air missiles of the Pakistani fighter jets.’ Saleh said on social media, ‘We have evidence that the Pakistani air force is protecting the Taliban’. As usual, Pakistan denied the allegations. On this too, the Vice President of Afghanistan slammed Pakistan.

Saleh said, ‘For the last twenty years, Pakistan has similarly denied the existence of the Taliban leaders and the Quetta Shura, a Taliban organization, in their country. Afghanistan and the West are well aware that Pakistan is re-reading paragraphs that have already been written in the wake of such allegations.’ Meanwhile, without paying any heed to Pakistani threats, the Afghan army has launched attacks to gain control of Spin Boldak. Some Taliban militants have been killed in Afghan military operations, while others have been arrested. The captured Taliban are claimed to include Pakistani terrorists. Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed have been reported to be fighting alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan.
