Pakistan, vying to clear terrorism accusations, sentences ten years of imprisonment to Hafiz Saeed

Lahore: Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has been handed out a punishment of 10-year imprisonment by a Pakistan court. Currently, Hafeez is serving an 11-year jail term in another case connected with terrorism. India had accused that the cases and verdicts involving Hafiz in Pakistan are a mere eyewash. As per India, with this, Pakistan wants to create a façade that it is taking action against terrorists. Hafiz Saeed had been given prison terms of 10 years is two cases by the counter-terrorism court in Lahore. It is said that both these cases were regarding terror-funding. Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid, the other leaders of the terrorist organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawa, also have been given ten years imprisonment each. Whereas, Abdul Rehman must serve six months in prison.

But Pakistan had avoided action against Saeed saying that the evidence was not sufficient. But Pakistan had filed cases against Hafiz to avoid being labelled as a terrorist country on the international level. Even a punishment was handed out to him in this case. But it is claimed that Hafiz is not in jail and has been kept under high security by the Pakistan military.

The imprisoned terrorists and even Hafiz have permission to meet anyone and are provided with whatever facilities they need. India has repeatedly pointed this out to the international community. Therefore, Pakistan had to create a scene by filing new cases against Hafiz and hand out punishment. This action being taken against Hafiz is with the specific objective of getting the country’s name removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List.
