Pakistan planning to hand over Skardu airport to China

Islamabad: Pakistan has taken a fresh loan of nearly USD 6 billion from China to bail out its sinking economy. The talk is that Pakistan has prepared to mortgage the Skardu airbase in Gilgit-Baltistan, an integral part of India. This has still not been confirmed on the official level. If this information is true, it poses a great threat to Indian security.

Pakistan planning to hand over Skardu airport to ChinaPakistan is preparing to declare Gilgit-Baltistan, which is a part of Kashmir, as the fifth Pakistan province. China had put a condition to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as Pakistan’s province to continue investment in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. China had asked that if this is a disputed territory, why should China invest in this region. After that, Pakistan started preparations to fulfil the Chinese demand to save its sinking economy.

The population of Gilgit-Baltistan is bitterly opposing the Pakistani decision. But Pakistan is taking this suicidal decision hoping for Chinese funding. China has made preparations to provide a loan of USD 6 billion for the purpose. But Pakistan will mortgage the Skardu airbase with China against the loan. Reports of Chinese fighter jets being present on the Skardu airbase have already been published.

Therefore, China and Pakistan are trying to outwit India, using the Skardu airbase. This poses a serious challenge to Indian security. Especially after India forced China to retreat from the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, the activities of Pakistan and China are drawing attention.
