New Delhi: – The number of Coronavirus cases is reducing in the country. Although the situation is grim because of the high positive rate in certain states, there is a satisfying picture that the total number of cases reported per day is reducing in the country. This has resulted in a reduction of active cases in the country by nearly one million. The positivity rate in 197 districts has dropped below 5%. Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary in the Health Department, underlined that on the 7th of May, the number of districts with a positivity rate of less than 5% was only 92. Also, Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, dismissed the claims that if there is a third wave in the country, it will be a major threat to the children.

222,000 new Coronavirus cases were recorded in the country within 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings. This is the lowest number in the last 40 days. But the death rate in Coronavirus patients is not reducing, and 4,454 deaths were reported in the same period. As per the experts, it will take some time for the death rate to decline.

Till the 3rd of May, the positivity rate in the country had reached 17% to 18%. Some states had earlier reported positivity rates in the range of 30% to 35%. But now the rate has come down to 10.17%. As per the World Health Organisation, any rate above 5% is dangerous. Therefore, the threat is still looming.

The information published by the health department indicates that the situation is improving in many districts. Currently, the positivity rate has dropped below 5% in 197 districts. The number of districts with positivity rates below 5% has increased by nearly a hundred since the 9th of May. Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary in the Health Department, said that the situation in almost 105 districts is stable and under control. The number of active Coronavirus cases has dropped to 2.72 million. Some time ago, the number of active Coronavirus cases had reached 3.7 million. This had put tremendous strain on the health infrastructure.

At this time, Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS, Delhi, dismissed the claims that the third wave will be more dangerous for children. He clarified that there are no indications that there will be severe implications for children in the third wave. The statistic shows that minimal infections were observed in the children in the first and second wave of the pandemic. The Paediatric Association itself has inferred that there are no indications that the third wave will affect children.

Meanwhile, Dr Guleria clarified that fungal infection is not a contagious disease. It will be more appropriate to identify the pathogen with its name rather than its colours, like black, yellow and white. On Monday, the first cases of Astragalus, the yellow fungus, was found in the country.
