New Zealand can’t afford to ignore risks in the South China Sea, military experts warn

Queenstown: – The world may have been stalled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but the threat to the Asia-Pacific sector has not been averted. Threat to the security of this sector, especially the South China Sea region, has only increased. Military analysts warned that New Zealand, an important country that is geographically close to the sector, cannot ignore the impending threat.

On Monday, which was the first day of the meeting, the military analysts and officials warned that the South China Sea’s freight movement would come under threat in the next few days.

Dr Anita Abbott, the President of the meeting, raised the questions, ‘The countries in the South China Sea are weaponizing themselves. For what purpose? Is this weaponization for cooperation, competition of common interests? Is this for containing piracy or terrorism or for the security of this oil-rich region?’

Whereas, analyst Pamela Williamson pointed out, ‘New Zealand cannot afford the stand that the South China Sea issue is limited to the countries in the sector, and New Zealand is not concerned about it. New Zealand is not very far from this sector, and it is important for commercial freight movement.’ Analysts participating in the meeting also warned that if China took control of the South China Sea, it could affect New Zealand’s security.
