On Saturday, Peace talks started, at Qatar, between the Taliban and the Ghani government in Afghanistan. Abdullah Abdullah the Chief executive officer of the Afghan government and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy chief of the Taliban, participated in the talks. Confidence is being expressed that these talks will end the two-decade-long conflict between the Afghan government and Taliban. Abdullah Abdullah claimed, during the talks, that the government wants peace to prevail in Afghanistan. But at the same time, Taliban deputy chief Baradar made the Taliban intentions clear, saying that Taliban wanted Islamic rule in the country.

It is evident from the conflicts in the 18 provinces that Taliban is fully active to fulfil its ambitions. The Afghan military informed that Taliban launched major attacks in the Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balk, Faryab, Ghor, Herat, Ghazni and Uruzgan provinces. Incidents of terrorist attacks have also been reported from 9 other provinces. The Afghan military claimed to have killed 6 Taliban terrorists in the Kandahar province. Whereas, the local administration in Nangarhar province informed that a minimum of 13 Taliban terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Sherzad district.

The sources linked to the Afghan government said that these attacks could be a Taliban attempt to pressurise the government to get its demands fulfilled.
