PoK activist slams Pakistan over the release of new controversial political map

United Nations: – Nasir Aziz Khan the leader of the United Kashmir People’s Party made crushing accusations during the 45th session of the US Human Rights Council that Pakistan has recently published a new political map that includes Jammu-Kashmir, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Pakistan is claiming rights over this region through the plan. This Pakistani step clearly shows that they have no love for Kashmir. Pakistan wants to have a part that does not belong to them.

Nasir said ‘Pakistan and China signed agreements to build two hydroelectric projects on river Jhelum. Neelam-Jhelum hydroelectric project has already been built. The citizens of the said Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are the lawful owners of the rivers and water resources in this region. But Pakistan is building huge dams in this region, without considering the opinion of the local people. Pakistan is trying to snatch the resources away from this region.’

Pakistan is ruling over the people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, based on the law passed in 1974. These rules are trampled and the people are being tortured and killed. Khan tried to draw the attention of the United Nations to this serious issue. Nasir appealed to the United Nations to take cognisance of the fact that the people opposing the government are being abducted and killed.

As per article 257 of the Pakistan constitution, Jammu-Kashmir is a disputed territory. But Pakistan claims rights over the people of Jammu-Kashmir, on the international level. Recently Pakistan published a new political map claiming Jammu-Kashmir, the said Azad Kashmir (POK) and Gilgit-Baltistan as its territories. Khan lambasted Pakistan, in the United Nations saying that with this map Pakistan has demonstrated that It has nothing to do with the sentiments of the Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile, just two days ago, another POK activist Sajjad Raja accused the Imran Khan government of treating the people of POK as animals. Sajjad Raja had tears in his eyes while saying ‘Pakistan has taken away the political and civic rights of the people of POK, with the implementation of the POK Election Act-2020. We are condemned as traitors in our land. Pakistan military is abducting and killing those who oppose it.’ Raja made an earnest appeal to the United Nations to take serious cognisance of this, at least now.
