Syria could see renewed flaring of conflict against IS

Damascus: – A minimum of 30 soldiers were killed in an attack launched by the IS terrorists on the Syrian military. Reports of IS terrorists abducting Syrian soldiers have also been received. Meanwhile, the Syrian mouthpiece has said that the United States has sent additional military reinforcements to Syria. A Russian destroyer also has left for Syria. Therefore, the possibility of a new conflict in Syria has become stronger.

It is being reported that terrorist movements have increased in the eastern Deir ez-Zur province and Syria’s north-eastern border region. As per the information published by the Syrian human rights organisation, the IS terrorists launched an attack on the Syrian soldiers in the Euphrates River region. Twenty soldiers were killed in the attack. This is the second attack on the Syrian military in the Deir ez-Zur province, by the IS terrorists, in the last 20 days.

Two weeks ago, IS launched a bomb attack on the soldiers returning home on a bus. Thirty-nine soldiers were killed in the attack. The Syrian human rights organisation claimed that after that, Russia launched 170 airstrikes on the IS locations. To avenge these strikes, IS targeted Syrian soldiers in the same region, once again.

Reports of IS activities in the Hama and Raqqa provinces are also being received along with the Deir ez-Zur province. IS carried out two terror attacks in the urban areas of Raqqa province in northern Syria and concerns of civilian casualties are being expressed. But no details are available regarding these attacks.

The Russian military, deployed in Syria, claimed that along with IS, the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist organisation Jabhat al-Nusra also carried out 21 terror attacks in the last 24 hours. The Russian military accused that Al-Nusra violated the ceasefire in Idlib, Aleppo and Latakia provinces.

Only last week, Russia had carried out drone attacks on Turkey-affiliated terrorist groups involved in fuel smuggling. Oil tankers had been destroyed in the attack. Since the last few weeks, the situation in Syria is becoming tense once again. The Russian destroyer carrying armoured vehicles and tanks has left for the Tartus port in Syria. Simultaneously, reports of Russia deploying its military on the Qamishli highway in eastern Syria are also being received.

A news agency linked to the Assad government in Syria has claimed that even the United States has initiated moves to increase its deployment in Syria. 30 US military aircraft have reached the Deir ez-Zur province, via Iraq. There were artillery guns and tanks in these aircraft, and the contingent left for the US military base in the Deir ez-Zur province, under the security of the US helicopters.

Therefore, the United States and Russia seem to have pulled up their socks, for actions against IS, Al-Qaeda and Jabhat al-Nusra.
