NATO striving to preserve its existence using Russian threat : Former French Intelligence Head

Paris : ‘After the dissolution of Soviet Union during the 90’s decade, the importance of NATO had ceased. Since then, to justify its existence, NATO is purposefully presenting Russia as a threat,’ criticised the former Head of French Intelligence, Yves Bonnet in no uncertain terms. Russia in no way is a villain, testified Bonnet.

Since past few months, NATO has been deploying troops in increasing number in the European countries that are adjacent to the western border of Russia. Armies of NATO as well as the US have been deployed in Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Estonia, Moldova and Latvia. Along with that, missile intercepting systems, tanks and military vehicles as well, have been deployed in these countries. During the last one year, NATO, having organised large scale war drills in countries around the Russian border, has exhibited its military capability.

NATO officials are stating that these military operations are NATO’s preparations against Russia. The security of NATO member nations is being threatened by Russia, accuses NATO. Russia as well, is giving an equally befitting reply to this and is organising military deployments and war drills. Due to this, tensions amidst East European nations have built up in the past few months.

Bonnet has criticised these military operations of NATO. Russia’s military strength has been exaggeratedly presented by NATO and NATO is purposefully depicting Russia as a villain, accused Bonnet. Bonnet also made it clear that the situation in European nations will not change by presenting Russia as a threat.
