Assassination plot of Israeli Prime Minister busted while on tour of Africa

Nairobi- Kenya’s Intelligence Service has busted a plot of assassination of the visiting Israeli Prime Minister,Benjamin Netanyahu, while on a four nation tour in Africa. A Kuwaiti newspaper ‘Al- Jarida’ reported that a terrorist outfit ‘Al-Shabaab’ had planned the assassination of the Israeli Prime Minister.However,Benjamin Netanyahudenied any attempt of such an attack on himself.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is on a tour of Africa with an objective to improve bilateral relations, enhance investments and trade. Netanyahu visits are planned to Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Netanyahu landed in Kenya from Uganda, where a plot of his assassination was planned by ‘Al-Shabaab’, as reported by the Kuwaiti newspaper.

Terrorists had planned to intercept the vehicle convoy of Netanyahu and assassinate him while travelling from Nairobi airport to the residence of the President. However, the Intelligence Agencies based on information of the assassination plot, changed the route of travel from Nairobi airport to the Presidential residence. Kuwaiti newspapers have reported, based on information from undisclosed sources, that due to timely information and action of the Kenyan Intelligence Agency, a major plot of ‘Al-Shabaab’ was busted.

Benjamin Netanyahu is the first Israeli Prime Minister to visit Kenya. Netanyahu has expressed concern on issues of terrorism while on his visit to Kenya and also appealed to have increased co-operation between the two countries to fight against terrorism, which seems to be a common factor troubling both nations.
