Israel airstrikes on Syrian cities: Syrian government news agency

Damascus/Jerusalem: – Israeli fighter jets launched attacks in the Latakia and Hama provinces in Syria. Syrian government news agency accused that one citizen was killed in the attack. The news agency claimed that the Syrian air defence system neutralised some of the Israeli attacks. Two weeks ago, the Syrian military had carried out a missile attack near the Dimona nuclear project in Israel. Israel retaliated by destroying the Syrian aircraft defence system. It is claimed that this is the first Israeli action in Syria after that.

As per the information shared by Syrian news agency Sana, Israeli fighter jets launched this attack at around 2.15 am on Tuesday. The Israeli fighter jets targeted the cities of Al-Hafah in Latakia and Maysaf in Hama province. There was a massive explosion in a plastic factory in Al-Hafah city, killing one woman and injuring six. The Syrian news agency did not release the details of the airstrikes in Maysaf city. Alert Syrian military activated the air defence system and retaliated against the Israeli attacks.

The Syrian news agency claimed that the Israeli fighter jets targeted civilian locations. Israel has maintained the policy not to react to the reports in foreign media. Israeli media are pointing out that the Israeli military had launched attacks in these locations even in the past.

Israeli fighter jets had targeted the missile factor in Latakia and weapons warehouse in the Hama province. Israeli media had accused that both these locations were under Iranian and Hezbollah control. Therefore, as per the Israeli media, it is likely that the Israeli fighter jets targeted the same locations on Tuesday midnight. The attack is also being viewed against the background of the tension reigning between Israel and Syria.

Last month, on 22nd April, the Syrian military had launched a missile attack near the Dimona nuclear project of Israel. There were no major losses as the missile landed in a deserted area. Iranian media had welcomed the action of the Syrian military. In the retaliatory action, Israel had destroyed the Syrian air defence system. There was a drone attack on an Iranian oil tanker near the Syrian coast in the next two days. The Iranian tanker had suffered major damages in the attack. Iranian and Syrian media had accused that Israel was responsible for the attack.

But after this, the Hamas terrorists carried out rocket attacks in the Israeli border region for four successive days. Israel retaliated against these attacks by targeting the Hamas locations. Israel even closed the Gaza marine border for a few hours. Tension had been created with in the region due to these developments, which took place in one week.

Meanwhile, Israel had warned that it would not tolerate Iran and Hezbollah building bases in Syria under the disguise of the Syrian conflict. Israeli leaders had warned that Iranian locations in Syria would be attacked without paying heed to anyone.
