Israel delays water supply to JordanCurrently, there is a water shortage in Jordan. Jordan demanded that Israel release the water in the Jordan river, as per the agreement signed between the two countries in 1994. Israeli officials have accepted the Jordanian demand. But a leading newspaper in Israel claimed that Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli National Security Council have put the decision on hold.

As per the Israeli newspaper, the developments over the last six months are responsible for the decision. Last year, Israel annexed a certain part of the West Bank to itself. King Abdullah of Jordan had expressed displeasure over the Israeli action. After that, there has been no dialogue between the two leaders.

A few days ago, Jordanian Crown Prince, Hussein, was scheduled to visit Temple Mount in Jerusalem. But Crown Prince Hussein had to cancel his visit due to a dispute regarding permits for his security personnel. After that, Jordan delayed granting the clearance to use its airspace for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to the United Arab Emirates. The Israeli newspaper claimed that this is why the Israeli Prime Minister is delaying the decision to release water. Israeli media are pointing out that the peace accord between the two countries could be in jeopardy.
