Tehran – Former Iranian President, Mahmood Ahmadinejad, made a sensational claim a few days ago that senior Iranian intelligence officials are Israeli agents. In addition, Ahmadinejad levelled serious allegations against the relatives of Iranian supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Ahmadinejad had shockingly claimed that Khamenei’s brother-in-law has links with Israel and even planned a visit to Israel. A London based Iranian, Persian language news channel gave this information quoting a website.
This information had been posted on the ‘Daulat-e-Bahar’ website, connected with former Iranian President Mahmood Ahmadinejad. There were accusations levelled by Ahmadinejad on Hassan Khojasteh, the brother-in-law of Ayatollah Khamenei. Khojasteh was the deputy chief of the Iranian national information and broadcasting company between 2008 and 2014. Nearly 12 years ago, Khojasteh had visited India along with his family. Ahmadinejad claimed that an Israeli company sponsored this trip.
Following the India visit, Khojasteh was scheduled to travel to Tel Aviv, the financial capital of Israel, via Turkey. Ahmadinejad being the President of Iran between 2005 and 2013, received information regarding the Israeli links of Khojasteh. Ahmadinejad said that after that, in the capacity of President of Iran, he stopped further Khojasteh actions and he sacked Khojasteh from the post of Deputy Chief of the Information and Broadcasting Company. However, Ahmadinejad said that there were no inquiries instituted against Khojasteh, the brother-in-law of the Iranian supremo.
At the same time, Ahmadinejad has also accused Khojasteh of trying to misuse his authority to defame him as President in the media. The website linked to Ahmadinejad also pointed out that Khojasteh’s son and other relatives occupy plush posts in companies from the important Iranian media sector. A strong reaction is expected from Iran regarding the accusations made by the former President. A few weeks ago, a dispute had flared up between Ahmadinejad and Khojasteh on social media.
Meanwhile, Mahmood Ahmadinejad is known as the hardliner leader in Iran. But the relations between Ahmadinejad and Iranian supreme religious leader Ayatollah Khamenei were strained during the former’s tenure as the President of Iran. Moreover, it is being revealed that Israeli agents in Iran had a part to play in killing nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and Israeli success in acquiring sensitive and confidential documents from the Iranian nuclear projects. After that, talks have started on the Israeli agents in Iran. Against this background, the information revealed by the former Iranian President could initiate a new political controversy in Iran.
