The Libyan government shared this information with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Pompeo said that it was exposed in the subsequent investigation that these chemical weapons had been manufactured in Iran. Pompeo said that Iran had used chemical weapons even during the Iran-Iraq war, in the city of Basra.

The Iranian foreign ministry criticised the accusations levelled by the US Secretary of State. Whereas, Russia dismissed the allegations levelled against Iran. Meanwhile, Pompeo declared that he would expose information regarding the cooperation between Iran and the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda within the next few hours.
