International conspiracy to destabilise Cuba taking place: President Díaz-Canel

Havana/Washington – Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel accused the international community of plotting to paint such a picture that Cuba has become unstable and dangerous. Protests in Cuba and other lies are being spread on social media, blaming it to be a part of an unconventional war. Last week, there were widespread protests in Cuba against the ruling communist regime. These are said to be the largest protest against the ruling regime.

On Saturday, the ruling party held mass rallies in support of the government. President Canel and Fidel Castro’s brother, Raul Castro, participated in the protests. At the time, the President accused that the protests in Cuba are part of an international conspiracy. Furthermore, he said that the protests in Cuba provoked an international outcry and criticism from several foreign leaders. This story was brought about. Besides, attempts have been made to paint a false picture of a widespread uprising in Cuba.

The Cuban President has accused that Cuba has been made a target of cyber warfare and charged that ‘cyber terrorism’ and’ media terrorism’, was being used against Cuba. A few days ago, while Russia targeted the United States for its protests in Cuba, it claimed that the United States was trying to create a ‘colour revolution’ in Cuba. At the same time, Russia had warned that foreign intervention in Cuba would not be tolerated.

After the 1959 revolution in Cuba, the communist regime came to power under Fidel Castro. The United States has repeatedly sought to overthrow Castro but failed. The United States has imposed large scale economic sanctions on Cuba. In 2015, the then-US President Barack Obama decided to lift some of the sanctions imposed against Cuba. However, during Donald Trump’s tenure, Cuba was included in the list of countries supporting terrorism and new embargoes were imposed on Cuba.
