Tokyo/Beijing/Washington: – Japanese Defence Minister, Yasuhide Nakayama warned that if the international community does not give timely reactions to the revolt in Myanmar, the democratic country will join the Chinese ranks. This will increase the Chinese influence in the Southeast Asian region. Even the United States threatened the Myanmar military with sanctions. But China has demanded that the international community should take an amicable understanding.

Last year, in November, Syu Ki’s National League for Democracy won nearly 60% of the seats in the elections. But even before the first session of the newly elected parliament, the military led by General Min Aung Hlaing arrested President Win Mint and other members. General Hlaing took over the reins of the country and imposed an emergency for one year. Japan has criticised that the revolt by the Myanmar military is a murder of democracy. Japanese Defence Minister Nakayama appealed that the democratic countries need to take a firm stand against the revolt. Nakayama warned ‘If we keep quiet the military relations between China and Myanmar will become stronger. In that case, Myanmar will be distanced from the democratic allies like the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom. This will create a major threat in the region.’

US President Joe Biden has reacted on the developments in Myanmar. President Biden criticised that the Myanmar military has launched an attack on the democracy with the arrest of Syu Ki. The United States had withdrawn sanctions against Myanmar, as it initiated steps towards becoming a democracy. The US President warned that if Myanmar is once again heading for a military rule, the United States will re-impose the sanctions.

China is taking care that no reactions are received on the international level, regarding the Myanmar military revolt. The Chinese foreign ministry said ‘Now the International community should try to work a truce out between the two parties, for peace and stability in Myanmar. But the Chinese foreign ministry has not said a word against the Myanmar military for overthrowing an elected government.
