Instead of moving towards the end of the Coronavirus pandemic, the world is moving further away from it, warn experts in WHO

Geneva/Washington: – Maria Van Kerkhove, an epidemiologist at the World Health Organization, warned, ‘The world has been moving farther away from the end of the Corona epidemic. We are in a horrible situation right now, and the whole world needs to be made aware of this fact.’ Other experts are also echoing Kerkhov’s warning. Scott Gottlieb, a medical expert in the United States and former head of the FDA, has warned that the country is ignoring the growing spread of the Delta variant. International experts have also objected to the British government’s decision to unlock, accusing Prime Minister Boris Johnson of endangering the world’s health.

The Coronavirus pandemic, which started in China at the end of 2019, has caused havoc worldwide and is still spreading rapidly. About 190 million Coronavirus cases have been reported worldwide, and the number of deaths has crossed 4 million. The second and third wave of the epidemic is underway in many major countries of the world. New strains of Coronavirus are evolving, creating an atmosphere of concern on the international level.

There are more than five vaccines available against the virus worldwide, and new vaccines are still being developed. The developments in certain countries have shown that vaccination is an effective remedy against the Coronavirus pandemic. Leading organizations in the world and experts from many countries are also urging to speed up vaccination. Countries that have stepped up vaccinations have initiated steps towards unlocking. But at the same time, new deadly variants of the Corona are emerging, which has led to an increase in the number of patients yet again.

Against this background, the warning issued by Dr Maria Van Kerkhov is alarming. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health in the United States, has endorsed her remarks. Collins pointed to the dangerous state by saying, ‘The current growth in Coronavirus patients is like watching last year’s movie again, and its ending doesn’t look good’.

Scott Gottlieb, the former head of the US FDA, also pointed to the growing spread in the country and has said that the Delta variant is the cause. Gottlieb said, ‘The US population is ignoring the growing spread of the Delta variant, but should be aware that this type is the fastest spreading one’. In the United States, the number of patients has risen by 70 per cent in just one week, and the number of deaths has increased by 26 per cent. The increase has been attributed to the Delta variant.

The new Delta variant has led to a resurgence in the number of patients in the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Indonesia, Australia and Africa.
